The first Clan Gathering held as part of ‘An Tostal’ celebrations took place at various venues around the county during Easter Week of 1954. Leopoldo O’Donnell, Duke de Tetuan, carrying a wreath, and his son Hugh, Count de Lucena, bearing the O’Donnell standard, are led by a piper, Vincent O’Donnell, to the pier at Rathmullan where the wreath was laid on the water in memory of those who sailed from there on the ‘Flight of the Earls‘ Sept.1607.
The ’82 Gathering, like the previous one, was held in Donegal Town in late Sept. and organised by a local committee to extend the holiday season. Hugh, Count de Lucena attended. Here a group visit the Franciscan Friary, Rossnowlagh
The first Gathering organised entirely by the newly-formed O’Donnell Clan Association, it was centered around the Rock of Doon, ancient home of the clan. Present were Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill of the Larkfield Branch, Count Hugh of Spain and Count Gabrial of Austria, also Spanish and Austrian ambassadors.
